JOB VACANCY – MAIN BUILDING CASHIER
The Fort Myer Thrift Shop is advertising for the position of Main Building Cashier.
This is a part-time position; the FMTS is open 10am-2:30pm three days a week - Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and one Saturday (occasionally two) a month. Work hours would be 9am-3pm on open days, approximately 18-24 hours per week. Occasionally other days may be required as needed.
The incumbent of this position is responsible for managing the sales process to support the overall success and profitable operation of the FMTS to accomplish its mission – supporting the military and their families. All profits are given as scholarships to military family members and community grants to charitable agencies that support our military and their families in the National Capital Area.

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
The FMTS is a private 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization and is not affiliated with the Department of the Army. The FMTS is an all-ranks, all-service, primarily volunteer organization that operates on Joint Base Myer–Henderson Hall (JBM-HH) with the written consent of the Garrison Commander. The position of Main Building Cashier is one of the few staff positions at the Thrift Shop.

- Managing transactions with customers using a computer cash register and credit card machine.
- Scanning goods and ensuring pricing is accurate.
- Collecting payments whether in cash or credit.
- All end of day procedures to ensure money is counted, scanned tickets are accounted for and deposit is ready for bookkeeping.
The Main Building Cashier:
- Must have a current military or dependent ID card.
- Must have good interpersonal skills, especially verbally, to communicate with customers, volunteers, and staff.
- Must have basic computer skills.
- Must have good organizational skills to keep the front area looking tidy and inviting for customers.
- Is accountable to the FMTS Manager.

The Thrift Shop is an all ranks and all six services community organization.
We are looking for volunteers to assist with: * computer data entry * merchandising * office work * sales * stocking items * sorting and pricing our donated and consigned items. Some volunteer once a week, while others more frequently. We are flexible and value our volunteers.
